Mental health illnesses affect millions of people in the UK, with approximately a fifth of British adults showing symptoms of anxiety or depression, as stated by the Mental Health Foundation. According to a YouGov poll commissioned by Swim England, 1.4 million adults in the UK have found that swimming has had a positive effect on their anxiety or depression.
